  • kempe studio pictureAn International Centre for study and Performance for Musicians, Writers and Actors.

  • An intimate space for audience of all ages and backgrounds to meet, develop, share and enjoy a love of the Classics.

This unique new space in the heart of Stratford and its theatre land, situated by the river and overlooking a beautiful private garden, has been made available to the general public by The Rudolf Kempe Society at its base, 58 Waterside, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Under the artistic directorship of the conductor's widow, violinist Cordula Kempe, and with the encouragement of the many eminent fellow artists, the activities of the society offer rare opportunities of insight into the process of artistic creation for performers and audiences alike. They are drawing on the extensive archive of the late Rudolf Kempe - Principal Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestras for a quarter of the century and revered by musicians in this country many decades beyond his untimely death - as well as the expertise of distinguished members of the musical and literary professions.

Sunday afternoons at The Muses
A cornucopia of diverse cultural experiences, unobtrusively educational and, above all, thoroughly entertaining.

Chamber Music Recitals
Programming works of all combinations of instruments, these recitals afford opportunities to young musicians to perform alongside established members of the profession and to communicate with their audience at an intimate level.

Lectures and Workshops
To complement the society's intensive work in chamber music, internationally acclaimed conductors, singers, and instrumentalists alongside distinguished critics - many of whom worked with Rudolf Kempe - are invited to give talks on a wide range of musical subjects, covering all aspects of symphonic and operatic repertoire.

Poetry Recitals
Alternating with the music programmes, a platform is given to poets and writers to present their work, read by themselves or professional actors, and to actors presenting small scale shows and direct classes in which they work on text with members of the audience.
